Prayer – The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

(James 5v16)

Everything we do as a CU has to centre around Jesus. If we honestly want to move on God’s behalf into situations where He is not yet known for who He is, we need to realise that apart from Him we can do no-thing. So we pray, we pray together as a christians living in a mission field asking that the Lord of the harvest would continue to send out His workers, that we as christians would have our hearts seized by the power of His great affection. As we pray we also remind ourselves that everything we do as a CU is dependant on God and it is not out of our own compassion we go, rather its out of His great compassion which never fails.

We therefore meet in term time on Wednesday mornings (8.00am- 8.50am) for breakfast together in the chaplaincy and Thursdays before CU:central to lift up all we do to Him.

The Chaplaincy is Number 76 on the map. (link below)

These meetings are only to facilitate your personal prayer for mission in our University. Prayer is not contained to these times and places so you can pray throughout each day at Uni, remember Christian maturity is an increase in dependence on God. If you have any ideas please email me (prayer@bristolcu.org.uk) or approach me at any point in the year.

Prayer for 2010-2011

As we enter the New year as a CU we shall be praying:

  • For the planning and implementing of our February MISSION FOCUS week.
  • For WISDOM in FOLLOWING up all the students who have attended any Christmas services including the carol services and the Mark drama.
  • For Christians who are not plugged into Christian community in Bristol, that they would quickly settle into a CHURCH
  • For HALL CUs and their LEADERS as they look use the next term to reach those around them with the great news of the gospel.
  • For all the Christians at our university as they look to be REFRESHED during the holidays for the coming term.
  • For all those looking to God for their immediate FUTURE after graduation etc.
  • For the CU LEADERSHIP to work together well and keep the CU going passionate about the vision to reach our university for Christ in the coming term
  • Concerning the BRISTOL INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CENTRE
    1. We have enough volunteers to effectively show the love of Christ to every international we meet.
    2. Our motivation as we reach out to internationals would be God’s love, a love we ourselves have so freely been lavished with
    3. Relationships would form which would continue throughout the internationals’ studies here.
    4. A big thank You to God for the amazing relationship we have with our university with regard to international work and for continued good relationship.
  • For all students across the university to get a chance to HEAR and RESPOND to the gospel over the year
  • For those doing RELAY or other year long INTERNSHIPS in ministry
  • For all those who became CHRISTIANS over the last year.
  • For the strengthening of our relationship as a CU with BRISTOL CHURCHES
  • For HALL CU LEADERS as they plan for mission focus week
  • For JACK TIMPANY our wonderful relay worker as he continues his year of relaying.
  • For JIM WALFORD our amazingly wonderful staff worker to be refreshed as he prepares to serve us, and for Godly vision and wisdom to help guide our CU in the coming year.
  • For CHURCHES as they receive our update letters, that they would be filled anew with a heart to partner with us in our vision to reach our mission field.
  • For OURSELVES as individuals to be captivated anew with His compassion and vision for our university and to be emboldened to never be ashamed of Him in the coming year.
  • For UNITY among Christians in our university

We continue to thank God for:

  • Thank God for the chance to have a CU in Bristol, free from persecution thanks to His continued protection
  • Thank God for the hard work that Hall CU leaders do
  • Thank God for the great lunch-bar talks last term and for the students who came
  • Thank God for good relations with the Students Union
  • For relationships with churches both in Bristol and further afield
  • Thank God for all the Christians in our University and that they would find CU a resource to help them reach their friends
  • For boldness, passion and courage to live and speak for Christ as students

Do use these requests as a resource in line with how helpful you find them , They should be updated regularly and remember:

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need..” Hebrews 4 v 14-16
